Dear Educator,
We drink it, bathe in it, flush it, swim in it and
more. Water is an integral part of a student's
everyday life. In the upcoming decade, water will
become one of the most discussed, relevant, and
controversial topics in our lifetime. Students will
want and need to understand the importance of
water quality and its health impacts, water
availability, water use and how we must take care
of this precious resource.
Bring water to life today with fun and fascinating
classroom programs and field activities.
Explore Boulder Creek and St. Vrain Watersheds
with your students through our GET TO KNOW
YOUR H2O water education program. Our
programs are designed to meet Colorado Model
Content Standards for Science.

GRADES K-5 CLASSROOM PROGRAMS
Rain, Rain Go Away? (K-5)
Gather ‘round an interactive model to discover the
journey rain takes in an urban environment.
Students discover how people impact waterways in
an urban environment. They observe how water
pollution occurs, identify typical urban
contaminants, and understand their part in
preventing stormwater pollution.
|
Home Sweet Habitat (K-2)
Plants and animals play a key role in and around
our local waterways. Students will observe and
describe various components of a riparian
ecosystem and will learn about local plants and
animals that rely on clean water for survival.
Water Cycle Program - All the Water in the World (4-5)
How does water cycle through the environment? How much of our Earth's
surface is covered by water? How much of this water is usable for human
consumption? Discover all of this in a 45-minute interactive exploration
|
Watershed In Your Hand (4-5)
A watershed is an area of land that drains into a
stream or lake. Everyone lives in a watershed, and
most of us live near a stream. In this classroom
activity, students create a miniature watershed and
learn about the basic geography of a watershed, how
water flows through the system, and the impact
people have on water quality.

GRADES 4-12 FIELD ACTIVITIES
Stream Sleuth (4-12)
Students observe, describe, and investigate a riparian
ecosystem through hands-on investigations at local
creeks. This program requires a minimum of 2 hours.
Water Quality Talk (4-12)
Let students become a water quality expert for a
day! Use scientific equipment to measure various
physical, chemical and biological parameters of a
creek, lake or pond near your school. This
program requires a minimum of 1-1/2 hours.
|
Macroinvertebrates (4-12)
Dive into stream biology and learn about water quality.
Collect, observe, identify and tally aquatic insects and
determine water quality of a local creek, lake or pond.
This program requires a minimum of 1-1/2 hours.
"We did a statistical count of bugs
living in the creek water. It was really
cool to learn that bugs help us know
if the water is polluted or not."
- 7th Grader
Storm Drain Stenciling (6-12)
Stormwater can contain oil, pet waste, trash, fertilizer,
pesticides and more. Did you know? Storm drains lead
